Mobile Radios: We’re Unhappy On Desks
By K5KVN, on the scene
PETALUMA, Calif. — A special interest group made up entirely of mobile radios says it intends to bring awareness to what it calls a “gross misuse” of their talents.
“We are small for a reason – to easily fit into confined spaces in an automobile,” said an Icom 2100H (serial number 14824). “I feel like sitting on a desk in a shack holds me back from my true potential.”
Other mobile radios told Ham Hijinks similar stories. The radios say they have been bolted to the undersides of table shelves, placed next to windows in direct sunlight and indiscriminately placed into service on top of boxes amid stacks of junk parts.
A Kenwood 710A described the worst nightmare of a mobile radio. “I’ve been on this table with my head in one place and my body five feet away for three years. THREE YEARS.” The radio motioned to its body, buried beneath a stack of instruction manuals.
There’s no word yet on what recourse the radios may pursue, but a Yaesu FT-8900R was quoted as saying, “Our time is coming.”
