PEA VINE, Mississippi – A Barnstead County ham radio operator is happy beyond belief today with his new acquisition of amateur radio gear.
Johnny Brown says he had been contemplating the purchase of a new handheld radio for VHF/UHF for months, but didn’t want to spend the money.
“Then I saw an advertisement for the new KaoPung HT for $31 dollars. And I’m like, WHAT THE HECK!?”
Brown says he quickly retrieved his credit card and purchased the device through a national online retailer’s website. Included with the KaoPung HT (FOR $31 DOLLARS!):
-15 watt quad-band handheld radio; freq range: 1.8mhz – 800mhz;
-Built-in flashlight
-GPS
-CW keyer
-PSK decoder
-HD retina display
-fingerprint ID unlock system
-mp3 player with auto shuffle
-laser beacon distress system
-road flares
-small hidden compartment for storing many valuables of a very small size
-Lithium-ion battery – 45 days without a recharge
-Wall charger
-Fully integrated stand charger for desk top use
-Car charger
-Boat charger
-Plane Charger
-USB to 12 volt charger “system” with velour drawstring carrying pouch
-Leather lanyard carrying straps in 4 vibrant colors
-USB cable for something or other
-A small DVD that will not play in any computer regardless of how you insert it
-A variety of miscellaneous sized plugs, jacks and loose knobs which seem to be totally unassociated with the radio
Brown says he is thrilled with the value and doesn’t care if the KaoPung transmits or not.
“JUST LOOK AT ALL THE FEATURES!” he exclaims.
“The down side is that I haven’t figured out how to program the unit yet. The instruction book is in Chinese.”
