Local Ham Sets World Record
By WBØRUR, on the scene
EAST BINGHAMTON, Maine – A local amateur radio operator will be listed in the next edition of the World Record book.
Jervis Tumbledon of rural Hampton Township has been a ham radio operator for 25 years, but never thought he’d receive international recognition for his hobby.
“It really comes as quite a surprise,” says the mild mannered public school librarian. “Yes, men can be librarians, too,” he adds. “And I’ve earned my honors quite by accident.”
Officials with the World Record book have certified Tumbledon’s string of 139 QSOs without a bathroom break as a new milestone. The contacts were made on a Saturday afternoon in October, says the librarian, who quickly adds that he “…wanted to watch football but his wife was using the only television.”
He credits his operating milestone to a very large bladder, adding, “I probably stretched it during my time in the Merchant Marines.”
“I got interested in working some DX ragchew and before I knew it, it was five hours later.”
Tumbledon says he’s only just begun to operate without “rest stops”.
“Wait until Field Day! I’ll go without going ALL NIGHT!” he add exhuberantly.
(Note: Withholding urination can result in painful and sometimes drastic medical and/or social issues. Please do not try this without a medical doctor or your wife’s approval.)

Just another case of the world record book being full of it. Sure five hours is a long time to not go. It especially a long time when you are drinking the obligatory cup of coffee per hour. 139 contest QSOs? What is he using, Silly Side Band? Shoot, any Crazy Wave contester can kick out that in 3 hours!
