Local Man Does, In Fact, Own The Frequency
PORT O’ GLOOM, GEORGIA — A Chickasaw County man has become the first amateur radio operator to officially purchase an HF radio frequency, the Federal Communications Commission announced today in a noon hour media luncheon.
Between bites of cucumber sandwiches and small squares of bread slathered with pimento cheese, FCC spokesman Pontus “Smokey” Blumenthal told reporters gathered at the Tri-County Technical College dining hall that the sale is “…part of the government’s plan to generate revenue from ‘under-performing’ slices of the radio spectrum.”
Using a lottery system, local ham radio operator Buzz Sanders (175 Fisherman’s Landing), accepted purchase of 14.281 MHz in the 20 meter amateur radio band.
A retired auto industry worker, Sanders says he’ll pay $2500 for the frequency over 35 monthly payments with a large balloon payment in month 36.
“It seemed like a fair deal to me,” he said. “When I get ready to work a contest, have a rag chew, want to tune up on the air, or just create some random QRM, I can use 14.281. And if someone gets belligerent, I’ll remind them that as a matter of fact I DO own the frequency!”
Sanders says he’s already thinking about subletting the frequency after several large contesting organizations contacted him in recent days.
Blumenthal shared that the FCC is also considering a “lease-to-own” frequency program, with the option to return the frequency to the government at the end of the lease term if propagation isn’t suitable to the operator.

Sorry, but the FCC is wrong in allowing this. The bands are supposed to used by “ALL” licensed operators to the limit of their licensing. Allowing someone to “PURCHASE” a specific frequency is BS & opens the door to more of the same. If this is allowed, Ham Radio just might be doomed. Really telling other operators they can’t use that frequency is downright wrong
Hey, this website is satirical
The joke was residing at about 30’, you however received it at 10’. Sorry it flew right over your head like that.
Just look at the name of the website. Some should read the entire post before entering themselves in “The Gullible Almanac”
Here’s your sign….
HOW DO YOU PURCHASE A FREQ, THE FCC DOES NOT OWN FREQ, FREQ BELONG TO ALL……THE FCC DOES NOT OWN THE TOLET THEY SIT ON……JB
Funny LOL You got them!
They just don’t get it! 😉 HAHAHAHAHAHA! 😉
If it’s on the internet it must be true! HI
Can I buy more than one frequency? I want to buy all my local repeater outputs and sublease time to Baofeng operators only!
Do they have a layaway program?
This is true. I heard that WA4D is signing a lease for 7.200, he plans to perform virtual Vulcan mind melding between K9RSY and AC1DD
So Wrong Wrong Wrong Frequencies belong to everyone licensed is the FCC selling away the Ham Radio hobby only to the rich operators I see games radio slowly starting to die off but then let only the rich operators that own those freqs fo thier own emergency communications during disasters then .
I used to own 7220, but since Dan moved into the neighborhood, I sold it for trailer lots.
Reading the coments proves what morons most hams are. LOL Hamhijink duh.
I’m looking forward to purchasing 14.300.
That is a great frequency to own. You can probably.create some additional income for yourself by subletting it to those hams.who at laboring under the misconception that they themselves already own it.
This is a great idea. This allows a great source of revenue for the government and it guarantees that the valuable spectrum goes to those that are indeed licensed hams and not some corporate communications Monopoly.
Total win-win for both. Definitely a big victory to insure that the integrity of ham radio can remain exclusive. Maybe this is what it will finally take to keep those simpleton no coders, CBers and generally lower class and socially less sophisticated types off the air and out of the way of us real hams. If a guy can’t afford towers, and arrays he surely has no business trying to buy into the valuable spectrum auctions. This will eliminate all those interruptions from the neophytes nuisance stations asking for signal reports or some neophytes just wanting to let you know that your 20db over… Come on now,,,, don’t you think we already know what our real ham radio stations are capable? Nothing worse than these newbie pest station lids getting in the way of your regular DX ragchew or worse try and make an exchange during a contest! I know that at $640,000 dollars my station is somewhat modest but that doesn’t include the 17 acres of land I have invested. It would only make great sense to secure my investment and purchase my own frequencies on the ham bands. Who wouldn’t find problem with this… To properly represent ham radio takes a certain amount of elitism . Owning the freq. Helps secure our status quo plus is the patriotic right thing to do . The government needs more money to make America great again and I would be proud to help fund a great America free from foriegn intrusion with strong military/Industrial complex. One that is ruled by those created more equally than the bleeding heart tards and freaks that have perverted this great land of the white man who came before us and toilet to tame such a raw savage unrefined land in the first place!
Ham spectrum is good for me and it’s good for those that know no better.
People take stuff WAY too seriously. I thought Amateurs were “the smart ones”. LOL! Funny & well written! Thank you!
Damn str8 way to straighten out the ham bands and stay elite now that they got rid of the code
Gotta keep the cb’ers away from the ham bands. How do I apply for 3870?
The satire was well hidden … easily to believe this article, especially if you hold a ham radio license.
I am selling Stars and a few craters left on the dark side of the Moon. Make me an offer.
I think we call April fool’s day 😁😊😂
Fake story.
WHOOOOOOOSH!
