BRUSHY VINE, Kentucky – A local ham radio operator says he wants to offer a dining experience like no other and it appears he has accomplished it.

The Shunted Feedline restaurant is now open for businessRandall Packard of Upper Mohawk parish, has opened a new restaurant called “The Shunted Feedline.” It features a variety of unique dishes sure to tempt the palate of even the most discerning diner. (The Shunted Feedline is located in the former “You’re a Gem!” retail bead shop at 4231 East Loppinger Drive in Brushy Vine, next to “Mr. F’s Ice Cream and Tattoo Parlor”.)

The Shunted Feedline RestaurantThe restaurant features a 50-foot buffet table full of pies, cakes, chops, potted meats and aged cheeses. The table is constructed from several retired sections of Rohn 45g tower.

“I’ve been wanting to do this for a while,” says Packard, a ham radio operator since 2007. “I felt like with my culinary experience and love of the hobby, it would make a perfect fit.”

Although the focal point of the restaurant is the dramatically presented food buffet, Packard encourages diners to order straight from the menu for a truly unique gastronomic experience.

Daily specials include:
– “Dip the Plate and Peak the Grid” pork roast
– QRMeatloaf — it’s so good you can’t think of anything else
– Pan Fried the Finals Chicken Breasts — slightly charred and with a slight aroma of bacon

In addition to dine-in service, patrons may prefer his lunch counter take-out offerings from ‘The DX Deli,’ featuring sliced luncheon meats from more than 100 DXCC entities. Overly zealous diners may accept Packard’s eating challenge: consuming deli sandwiches from each of the 100 entities represented. If successfully completed in 90 minutes (including chips and drink), competitors receive a certificate suitable for framing.

Packard has been responsible for food at his radio club’s Field Day activities the past two years. He gained kitchen experience as a cook in the U.S. Army.

“I’m big on meat, potatoes and starches,” says the radio operator. “And camouflage.”

Note: the restaurant offers a working ham radio station for those who want to work DX while they eat. The Shunted Feedline is open Monday through Saturday, 14:00 to 23:59 UTC each day.
